Elisa Overcomes Icy Obstacles to Win First Place in Photography Contest

GILLS ROCK, WI - July 30, 2023

With more than 200 photos submitted from all across the country, Elisa won first place in Fine Art America’s ‘Severe Frozen Weather’ photography contest.

Her winning photograph, titled “Cold View” tells a compelling story and truly encapsulates a moment frozen in time.  The photo features a bright red bench covered in layers of ice from severe winter winds/waves sustained just a day prior.

Despite forgetting her Yaktrax at home, Elisa slid and crawled her way until she finally reached the spot that offered this breathtakingly cold view.  After taking a rest on the frozen bench, Elisa safely made it back to her car and has vowed to never leave home without her Yaktrax again.

Photos Featured on WGN News in Chicago

CHICAGO, IL - November 23, 2022

Three of Elisa's photographs were featured on WGN News in Chicago, thanks to the endorsement of esteemed meteorologist Tom Skilling.

The first two images showcase the raw force of nature as 15-20 foot waves crash against the shores of Gills Rock on November 19, 2022.

The third photograph, taken the following day, offers a different perspective. Elisa's lens focuses on a bright red bench, which stands as a testament to the extraordinary conditions witnessed just a day prior. Covered in layers of ice resulting from the arctic air and water from the mighty waves, the image exhibits a surreal and captivating scene.

Tom Skilling, known for his expertise and passion for weather, shared the images with admiration. Commenting on Elisa's photographs, he spoke of how the frigid winds and relentless waves transformed the ordinary into something extraordinary, turning the bench into a frozen marvel.
